FAQs

What is YOMA?

YOMA is a combining of the words “yoga” and “massage”. And it’s what we do! Our sessions are a blend of yin and restorative yoga, with massage and assisted stretches offered in each posture. Yes, it is as heavenly as it sounds!

We have developed a highly accessible hybrid yoga practice that is dedicated to nurturing and supporting the body and the mind to reach a place of deep relaxation and rest. We also incorporate breathwork (pranayama) and meditation techniques into our sessions.

What is yin and restorative yoga?

Yin yoga and restorative yoga are quiet, contemplative and slow-paced forms of yoga. Yin yoga targets deep connective tissues, like your fascia, ligaments and joints with passive, longer-held poses. Meanwhile restorative yoga postures are more gentle and subtle, focused on calming the body and mind.

In YOMA sessions, we use props such as bolsters, blocks and blankets so participants feel well supported and comfortable.

Do I need to be flexible or good at yoga to attend?

Absolutely not! Our sessions are designed for every body and we welcome those new to yoga. It is worth noting that we do hold yin and restorative poses for several minutes at a time, but you are always welcome to modify or move whenever you feel.

If you have injuries or issues that significantly affect your mobility, we recommend reaching out to us in advance so we can ensure the practice can be tailored to meet your needs.

What kind of massage/touch is offered?

YOMA is designed with the intention to help participants rest and relax. We believe in the healing and soothing power of touch. In each posture, we will offer some form of touch - massage, compression, traction, assisted stretch or gentle mobilisation.

Our offerings are inspired by remedial massage techniques and mobilisations, yoga adjustments, thai massage, Zen Thai Shiatsu and Lomi Lomi massage.

Alli has studied bodywork extensively, including in all the modalities listed above.

We always seek consent from participants, ask for feedback and respect our clients’ wishes. It is perfectly OK if at any point, you would prefer not to receive hands-on touch.

How long are the sessions?

Our immersions (open to the public) are usually 120 minutes. For privates or corporates, our sessions can run from 60-120 minutes, depending on the clients’ wishes.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear something comfortable that you can move freely in. If possible, avoid wearing any bulky or restrictive clothes as it can impede the ability to rest and receive massage.

We provide all props but you are welcome to bring your own yoga mat if you so desire. Bring a water bottle, some socks and something warm (like a sweater) so you feel cosy.

“YOMA with Alli and Hannah is heavenly. It’s like a giant hug for your heart and body, so nourishing and gentle. I walk out on a cloud every time.”
